"Fantastic place to stay, warm welcome lovely room."

We arrived on one of the days the inn had was closed so we were met and shown to our room. We were offered to have our evening meal booked for us and took this option choosing to go to Haweswater Hotel. We had a lovely meal watching a red squirrel sitting in the hotel wall. Back at the Mardale inn the log fire was lit for us to sit in a snug area where you could watch to or read. The room was lovely, bright and clean. We chose a early self service breakfast. I would definitely come back. Although the pub was closed we could serve ourselves and write what we had drunk. This is a lovely place to stay, it's not on the coast to coast route if that's what your doing but well worth going off route for.

"Great overnight stay in lovely location"

We unfortunately only stayed at the Mardale for one night - we would have loved to stay longer! Jess was really friendly and made us feel welcome and at home. Although the Inn was closed to the public, we had everything we needed including a lovely meal made by the chef. We loved the Mardale and would love to come back soon!

"Very pleasant country pub with good accomodation"

The pub was quite in keeping with an old village. The staff were helpful and accommodation comfortable and quiet. There was a friendly atmosphere in the bar area and the food was of good quality. The Sunday breakfast starting at 9.30am was a little late for us as we needed to make an earlier start. The chef was good enough to make us a sandwich breakfast to take with us on our journey. Overall a good experience and would recommend to others. It is about 10 mins drive from Shap on country roads. Friendly Enjoyable food, drink and atmosphere

"Just what was needed after a long and very tiring day"

I am pleased that after a difficult days walking we had inadvertently chosen a day when the bar was open. A recovering pint and conversation with some of the locals helped with a good nights sleep. Wonderful to have a bath rather than a shower. The breakfast was excellent and the staff courteous and friendly. It was worth walking a mile and a half off the coast to coast route. Thank you.
