„THE choice in Zermatt“
While I normally do not bother to write a review, Chalet Altesse deserves one. While Zermatt boasts about being car-free, it is not. It is full of cars: electric mini-vans, that quietly creep up on you on the narrow village roads. The solution? Chalet Altesse! Located at the far end of the village in the charming neighborhood of Winkelmatten, it has a completely unencumbered view of the Matterhorn in front, with a field at the end of the garden and a forest on the left side. Fun hiking trails start in that forest, just a few steps from the garden. There is a cool restaurant in Winkelmatten called Sonnmatten, of course with the Matterhorn in view. Near Furi (a short hike from the chalet) is the most charming lunch restaurant, Zum See, with excellent chefs. While I normally prefer old wooden chalets, Altesse has managed to create a modern, zen space, uncluttered and soothing to the eyes. And…. while I normally do complain about the level of cleanliness, Altesse is very well maintained. Topping it all off, Nikki is a competent, accommodating, and always available, Chalet Manager.
